Harborwalk Park Patio
Portsmouth, New Hampshire

g2+1 was invited to work with Waterfront Engineers, LLC, retained by the City of Portsmouth DPW, to design a land based park space and shoreline timber overlook along the Piscataqua River. The project was a public use component programmed in conjunction with reconstruction of the Memorial Bridge from Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine.

Services commenced with a detailed site reconnaissance and review of construction drawings of the bridge project already in progress to understand what existing conditions applied to the selected park site.  Alternative concept drawings were prepared and reviewed with all stake holders. Once a concept was selected, with minor refinements added, then design development proceeded.

g2+1 was responsible for park site layout, grading, hardscape and landscape design. Tasks included materials selection for hardscape (brick, granite pavers and granite edging) and plant selection in conjunction with planter bed details for drainage and specialized planting medium.

Services included coordination with Waterfront Engineers to establish the axial relationship of patio space to the future timber overlook, selection of site furnishings including bench seats, cast iron single and multi-bit marine bollards proposed as thematic elements and plan refinements to accommodate two granite memorial stanchions and an interpretive panel to fulfill the project's Historic commemorative requirements.
